“Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe .” - Oprah Winfrey
The Journaling Box’s Affirmations Box is here, and it comes with all the tools and resources to help you figure out exactly what you want to focus on for the rest of the year and to create the affirmations to set you up for success.
Affirmations are positive statements or phrases that can help you to create a more positive mindset or to help counteract negative self-talk or limiting beliefs. Affirmations work best when repeated regularly, either silently or aloud, with the intention of reinforcing the new belief or mindset you need.
The purpose of affirmations is to promote positive thinking, boost self-esteem, and change your mindset to one of possibilities and intention.
The Journaling Box’s – The Affirmation box contains all you need to help you create your own meaningful affirmations:
LEUCHTTURM1917 A5 Notebook – This smaller notebook is perfect for keeping in your bag. Use the notebook to write out your affirmations each day to remind you of what it is you want.
The Journaling Box Affirmation Toolkit – The Journaling Box’s affirmation toolkit contains blank cards, Sharpie Pens and a mini easel so you can create your own affirmation and have it displayed where you can see it all the time. I keep mine on my desk – next to my oil burner. And at the moment is has a beautifully decorated (if I do say so myself) note to remind me that “I’ve Got This”.
Telsa Amazing Magnetic Note – Ok so these were a last-minute addition to the box – but I couldn’t resist them – these new ‘post-it’ notes are amazing (hence the name 😊) and they really do stick anywhere. Now you can pace your affirmations reminder on every surface.
Mala Beads from Nepal – Mala beads Mala beads are a Buddhist and Hindu meditation tool. They're used as a way to keep count of repetitions while reciting mantras or affirmations during meditation. I tend to use these beads during meditations when I feel that I need the extra support from my affirmations. They also sit on my desk, so I often play with them when I am deep in thought.
Now you have the tools it time to create your own affirmations.
Step 1 : Understand WHAT you really want.
The purpose of an affirmation is to program your mind with the beliefs, attitudes and behaviours that reflect your ideal vision for your life.
Journaling Prompts:
What does an ideal day in my life look like? Describe it in detail, from morning to evening.
If I could do anything (time, money and any other limitations are not an issue) what would I do?
What changes would I like to make in my life?
Step 2 : Understanding WHY you want it.
Being clear on why you want something will you give you more purpose and conviction to want to achieve it.
The "Five Whys" Journaling Exercise:
Take the first WANT from Step 1 (eg. "I want to change careers") and journaling on WHY you want it. "Why do I want to change careers? Because I'm unhappy in my current job".
Take the answer from the first question and ask WHY again. Delving deeper into the motivations and reasons behind the initial answer. “Why am I unhappy in my current job? Because I don't feel connected to what I do"
Continue Asking WHY: Repeat the process for a total of five times, each time asking WHY and answering based on the previous response. Each WHY should probe deeper into the underlying feelings, motivations, and desires.
Step 3 : What’s Stopping you?
Now that you know WHAT you want and WHY you want it. It’s time to get clear on what's holding you back. Take each of your WANTs and list all the 'reasons' or thoughts that are stopping you from taking action towards these wants.
"I want to change careers":
o but I don’t have time or the energy to search for a new job
o I’m too old get a new job now.
These thoughts, reasons or excuses may identify some of your negative core beliefs. Left unchecked these negative beliefs will continue to sabotage your efforts to getting what you want.
Step 4 : Writing your Affirmation.
It’s time to write your affirmations. Take a look at what you wrote in Step 3, and reframe these into more positive statements?
Affirmation Guidelines:
Write in the present tense, as if your desired outcome is already true. "I have or I am"
Make it specific, clearly defining the qualities, behaviors, or outcomes you desire. "I have the time and energy to find a new career".
Infuse your affirmation with emotions that connect to your why. “I have the time and energy to find a new career so that I love what I do every day”.
Keep them short and concise, so they are easy to remember and repeat throughout the day.
Repeat and believe: Repeat your affirmation daily, ideally multiple times a day.
Your turn, what affirmation do you need to start believing?
